Among the talents discovered during the recent jury selections to join pour Maisons de Mode, designer Lucie Brochard will be coming from Paris in September to be part of the incubator at the heart of the project.
Brochard grew up at benefiting from the two cultures of her parentage: Asian and French. Both of her heritages infuse her collections.
Graduating in 2007 from l’Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, she had already won first prize at the Kobe GHGF-ECSP competition the year before, which gave her the opportunity to discover Japan and China.
In 2008 she was chosen to be part of an exchange student programme, when she attended San Francisco’s prestigious Academy of Art University. Here, she studied marketing, photography and men’s fashion.
She followed this up by launching her career working at luxury fashion houses Chloé, Paule Ka and Christian Lacroix. Here she gained practical knowledge and experience in the practical workings of seamstress and design craft studios. Fortified by what she learned at these major houses, Brochard chose to augment her experience by working at the Nice Collective in San Francisco and at Freeman T. Porter. Her research into the comfort of clothes informs all her collections.
In 2013, she launched her label: Prêt-à-porter Couture Lucie Brochard.võ.
‘Inspired by her journeys, Lucie Brochard has conceived an ideal wardrobe, cut to perfection and emphasizing the form of the modern woman travelling through world. Brochard’s aesthetic blends sensuality, elegance and practicality.’
The label works sublimely with silks, using diverse techniques of putting together each garment – such as superposition and pleating. The coulours employed draw from the urban landscape that she has known.
With each collection, Brochard takes us on a journey to discover a country and a culture, translating emotions while revealing a feminine silhouette imbued with character, originality and a passion for traveling.
And her work has drawn kudos. A finalist in the 2013 Fashion Talent and Grand Prize for Creation competition in Paris, she won First Prize at France’s Young Designers National Competition in 2014.
Brochard staged her first fashion show in 2015 at Paris’ Palace Le Bristol Paris in partnership with Le Bristol. She presented her first two collections, which were displayed afterwards in a showroom at the Maison de la Création et du Savoir Faire.
She collaborated again this year with Le Bristol Paris to present the epilogue of her trilogy on 5 March, during fashion week.
